Parakaleo Engine
Parakaleo Engine is the original way to use Parakaleo. A small piece of software lives inside your vehicle, reads what the vehicle itself is doing, and turns it into a Safety Score you can review.
No phone needed, and no fuss once it's running. It does ask a little more of you at the start than Parakaleo Mobile does, though, so here is the whole route before you commit to it.
A note before you start: Safety Intelligence is read-only software that observes and scores, and it does not intervene. Active Vehicle Protection is a planned future capability. Certification has not started, and it is not part of this plan today.
At a glance
- $15 per vehicle, per month. Cancel any time.
- Needs a vehicle from 2010 or newer with a supported radar, and a single installation.
- Works without a phone in the car.
- Best for fleets, work vehicles, and anyone who wants the most detailed picture.
- A few items to buy yourself. The billing page lists them in a requirements document before you pay.
What it actually does
The software runs on a computer inside the vehicle. It listens to the vehicle's onboard network, the CAN bus, and watches the road ahead through a supported radar the vehicle already has. Many times a second it asks one question: is something getting close enough, and fast enough, that braking would matter right now?
When the answer is yes, it works out what it would do about it, in a fraction of a second, and writes the moment down. That is all it does today. It never touches your brakes or your steering. It watches, thinks and reports.
Those reports reach the portal, on supported vehicles with a supported radar, and become your Safety Score, a log of every hazard moment, and a driving history you can look back on. Active Vehicle Protection is a planned future capability, and certification has not started. If it is ever certified, it is intended to build on this same engine, but nothing about it is promised today.
What you'll need
- A vehicle made in 2010 or later with a supported radar. Cars from then on have a CAN bus, but whether Engine works still depends on the vehicle and its radar. Not sure about yours? The portal has a short check using the diagnostic port under the dashboard, and you can't get it wrong.
- A computer in the vehicle to run the software, connected to the internet (Wi-Fi, a SIM card or a cable) so it can check in by itself.
- An active Parakaleo Engine plan on your portal account, with one paid slot for each vehicle.
- A few extra items that you buy yourself, such as a small computer and the parts that connect it to the vehicle. The requirements document on the billing page lists them all.
Items you buy yourself
Engine runs on a few parts that you buy yourself. They are small and easy to find. We do not sell them, ship them or bundle them with your plan, so you choose the shop. You fit them at your own responsibility, or through a qualified installer.
Before you pay, the billing page shows you a requirements document. It lists every item, explains what each one does, and gives examples of where to find it in your region. Read it first and there are no surprises.
You pay the shop for these parts, not us, and you pay once. Your Parakaleo plan stays at the monthly price below.
What setup looks like
- Create your account in the portal and subscribe. Choose how many vehicles to cover, and answer a short vehicle compatibility check first. You can change the number of vehicles later.

- Answer one short question: was the vehicle made in 2010 or later? Plain-language help is right there if you're unsure.

- Download the software and the setup guide. The guide contains the instructions to follow to install the system.

- Register the vehicle in the portal. Once it checks in you'll see it marked Online, and its Safety Score starts to build.
Take it one step at a time and follow along, and you probably won't need us at all. If you do, write to us and we aim to reply within 48 hours.
The installation happens one time only. You fit the parts and put the software on the vehicle's computer once, and you are done. After that, there is nothing more to set up.
What you'll see afterwards
Each vehicle can have a driver assigned, so the score belongs to a person and not just a machine. You'll see a live Safety Score, a list of hazard events with the details of what happened, driving history in kilometres, and the health of each vehicle's sensors. Points, weekly check-in streaks and the monthly Safety Challenge sit on top, for anyone who enjoys a little friendly competition. Safety Scores are meant for coaching and fleet management, not for credit, hiring, firing, tenant or insurance-eligibility decisions.
Is it right for you?
Engine suits you if you run a fleet or work vehicles, if you want the deepest data a vehicle can give, or if you'd rather not depend on anyone's phone. It is a weaker fit if your vehicle is older than 2010, or if you simply don't want to install anything. In that case, Parakaleo Mobile may be the gentler way in.
Price and billing
$15 per vehicle, every month, billed in US dollars; applicable taxes may be added at checkout. Parakaleo charges no hardware, installation, activation or setup fees, just the monthly price. The items you buy yourself are paid for to the shop, outside your plan. You can add a vehicle at any time, and it is charged pro rata for the rest of the current billing period. Removing a vehicle or cancelling gives no credit or refund (except where the law requires one) and takes effect at the end of the period, so you keep access until then. Deleting your account is different: it ends your subscription and your access immediately, with no refund of the current period except where the law gives you one.
Rewards
Engine vehicles earn points for safe kilometres, weekly check-ins and more, and they compete in the monthly Safety Challenge. A cash prize requires both a referral and a minimum distance, as set out in the Safety Challenge Rules in the portal. Points have no cash value on their own, but they can count toward qualifying. Leaderboards show display names and scores to other accounts, and you can ask us to hide your display name. Anyone who refers others must disclose that they receive a reward. You compete only against other Engine drivers. Why? A score built from radar and a score built from a phone measure different things, and we would rather compare like with like.
Mixing methods
Each vehicle uses one method, and that choice stays with the vehicle for good. One account, though, can hold both: some vehicles on Engine, others on Mobile. They are billed as two separate subscriptions, and each method has its own scores and its own leaderboard.
Ready when you are
Create an account in the portal, subscribe to Parakaleo Engine and follow the steps. Or, if no installing sounds better, have a look at Parakaleo Mobile first.
