What exactly is Parakletos?
Parakletos is safety intelligence software today, and it's built toward active collision protection for tomorrow. Right now, it reads a supported radar the vehicle already has (Parakaleo Engine) or your phone's sensors (Parakaleo Mobile) and turns the hazards it detects into a Safety Score you can see and review. With Engine, it aims to work out what it would do about a hazard in under 100 milliseconds. It doesn't touch your brakes or steering. Active Vehicle Protection, where that same engine would act, is planned only. Nothing about it has been started or certified, and it isn't available today.
How is this different from the collision-warning system already in my vehicle?
Many factory and aftermarket systems only warn the driver with a beep or a dashboard light in the last moment before impact, and then that moment is gone with no record of it. Parakletos turns that same moment into a Safety Score you can track over time, tied to the driver who was actually behind the wheel.
Do I need to buy new sensor hardware to use it?
It depends on the method. Parakaleo Mobile needs only your phone. Parakaleo Engine runs on a supported radar the vehicle already has, in a vehicle from 2010 or newer, but it also needs a few vehicle-side parts that you source yourself, such as a small computer and the parts that connect it to the vehicle. We don't sell or ship them, and the requirements document on the billing page lists them before you pay. Compatibility depends on the vehicle and its radar, so please check before you subscribe.
Does Parakaleo sell or install any hardware?
No. We publish reference hardware specifications for qualified installers, both for the two vehicle tiers and, eventually, for the actuator hardware Active Vehicle Protection would use if it is certified. You, or your installer, source and fit anything physical yourselves, at your own responsibility and whenever you choose to. We never sell, ship, or bundle hardware. Parakaleo Mobile needs none, and Parakaleo Engine needs a few items you buy yourself, as described above.
Is Parakletos certified for active use on the road right now?
Not yet, and we want to be upfront about that. Safety Intelligence, the read-only detection and scoring layer, is live today. Active Vehicle Protection, the part that would actually steer or brake, is planned only: certification has not started, and it has not been approved for road use. ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 are functional-safety standards we intend to assess against, and approval for use on the road is a separate regulatory matter. Nothing on this site should be read as a claim otherwise.
Who is liable if the software gets something wrong?
Safety Intelligence today only observes and scores, and never actuates a vehicle's brakes or steering. Our liability, and yours, is set out in our Terms of Service, which include the license terms. Liability for Active Vehicle Protection, if it exists as a certified product, will be addressed separately when that stage arrives. This FAQ isn't legal advice, so please read the Terms and write to us with any questions.
How does this affect my insurance?
No insurer receives Parakaleo data today. In the future we may offer an opt-in way for a driver to share Safety Scores with an insurer, only with that driver's consent, but that is not live, and any discount or premium effect would be the insurer's decision and is not guaranteed. Because Parakletos observes and scores but does not intervene, it should not be presented as qualifying for ADAS discounts, so please ask your insurer directly. Safety Scores are meant for coaching and fleet management, not for credit, hiring, firing, tenant or insurance-eligibility decisions.
What does it cost?
Safety Intelligence has two tracking methods. Parakaleo Engine, our software that runs inside the vehicle, is $15 per vehicle every month. Parakaleo Mobile, which uses the Parakaleo Drive phone app with no hardware to install, is $20 per vehicle every month. Prices are in US dollars; applicable taxes may be added at checkout. You can manage your subscription any time at the licensing portal. Adding a vehicle part-way through a billing period is charged pro rata for the rest of that period. Removing a vehicle or cancelling gives no credit or refund (except where the law requires one) and takes effect at the end of the period, so you keep access until then. Deleting your account is different: it ends your subscription and your access immediately, with no refund of the current period except where the law gives you one. Active Vehicle Protection, if it is ever certified and offered, is expected to run around $50 per vehicle every month, but that's a future price, not something you can buy today, and it could still change before it launches.
When can I actually get Active Vehicle Protection?
Safety Intelligence is available now. Active Vehicle Protection is planned only. Certification has not started, so we cannot give a date. Pilots begin on Safety Intelligence, and Active Vehicle Protection pilots would start only if and when certification allows. Founding pilot applicants will be considered as each phase opens up. Any move to Active Vehicle Protection would be offered when it is certified and available, on terms we publish then, and nothing carries over automatically.
What happens to the data Parakletos logs?
Every hazard event is logged, reviewable, and explainable to you. That's a core design principle, not an afterthought. On supported vehicles with a supported radar, those hazard events reach the portal and feed the Safety Score. It's managed through the licensing portal. Our privacy policy covers this website, the licensing portal and the Parakaleo Drive app, and the license terms in our Terms of Service cover the commercial terms for equipped vehicles. We keep IP addresses for up to 90 days, and accounts that have been cancelled and inactive for 24 months are deleted.
Can I use this if I have just one vehicle?
Yes. Alongside fleet and enterprise licensing, Parakletos is available for individual and retail licensing, where an owner licenses the software directly.
How do I get involved right now?
For Safety Intelligence, sign up directly through the licensing portal, no application needed. For Active Vehicle Protection, join the pilot. We intend to give founding applicants priority consideration and founding customer pricing, though neither is guaranteed until terms are published, along with a direct say in how it gets built.
